IT IS that time of year when many of the region's art societies put on their annual exhibitions.

Sedbergh, Cartmel, Bolton-le-Sands, Lake Artists - just to name a few - will all be gathering their talented members together for another round of must-see showcases putting their enthusiastic members' artistic potential in the frame, literally.

Among those constantly raising the bar of creative quality are the members of Windermere Art Society, who hold their 37th annual exhibition at the 'Windermere Tate,' otherwise known as the Ladyholme Centre, on Lake Road, from Monday, July 30 until August 11.

Last year's WAS show had standout paintings galore with the exceptional brush strokes of Jean Wedgebury and her oil of Venice, The Grand Canal, landing her the society's Robin Lowry Memorial Cup.

A wonderful addition to the 2017 exhibition was the inaugural Colin Heighton Memorial Prize for Young Artists which brought the creative flair of students from The Lakes School at Troutbeck Bridge into the exhibition spotlight. Many of teacher Rob Hardy's gifted students had entered artwork for the prize, named after the society's highly respected past chairman and president, and former headmaster of Kendal's Stramongate Primary School, Colin Heighton.

Prize winner was 16-year old Jenny Wood with her outstanding mixed media Still Life.

Again this year, the young artists award is well represented with entries from local schools for 15 to 18 year olds; first prize is £100.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10.30am-5.30pm.
