CARTMEL Art Society's members are looking forward their 52nd annual exhibition, which runs from Wednesday-Sunday, August 15-19.

With more than 200 paintings on view, the Cartmel Village Hall exhibition is the society's shop window that gives local artists a chance to showcase their talents and give visitors the opportunity to buy plenty of original work.

Several society artists are members of Kendal's highly thought of Green Door artists group, including Valerie Hebble-Thwaite, Pamela Gregory, Ann Fitch, Hilary Farnsworth and Margaret Auger and many members have also exhibited at the popular Milnthorpe exhibition. Catherine Alexander - whose San Sebastián Portugal and Misty Mountain paintings will be featured - has displayed works in Kendal, Liz Croy at the Cumbria Local Artists exhibition in Grasmere and others took part in local art trails during the summer.

The exhibition features a variety of media such as oils, watercolour and acrylic, and for the first time in the society's show batiks will be on display.

Cartmel Art Society members meet once a fortnight.
