BURNESIDE Amateur Theatrical Society is putting the finishing touches to its dazzling new show, Hooray for Hollywood.

This all-singing, all-dancing production promises to take the audience on "a spectacular journey through time" with a mix of some of the most memorable musicals from the last 100 years.

Setting the scene are classic melodies from the early days of musicals like Puttin' on the Ritz, Singin' in the Rain and There's No Business Like Show Business; followed by the likes of Pinocchio, Annie Get Your Gun, Funny Girl and Grease - and ending with this year's box-office hit, The Greatest Showman.

Making her directorial debut for BATS is primary school teacher Helen Fothergill.

"It’s been a lot of hard work, but with a great cast, crew and committee, it’s also proving to be great fun," she said. "Rehearsals are going well and everything is coming together nicely.

Helen added: "The children have gone from strength to strength and as their confidence increases they just get better and better. They have had a lot to learn for this show but after completing a full week of rehearsals they are sounding and looking fabulous and are well worth coming to watch."

The returning BATS cast includes Ron Milnes, Louise Bell, Rita Brown, Sue Cook, Hayley and Drew Newman, Steph Wilson, Dana Smith and Maisie Wright, alongside new names Vicky Edge, Angela-Lee Kennedy and Imogen Foster, plus 10 talented youngsters.

Hooray for Hollywood is at the Bryce Institute, Burneside, Wednesday, August 29-Saturday, September 1, 7.30pm.
