Massively popular in Japan, this latest instalment of Dragon Quest continues the wonderful work of this brilliant role-playing series.
The game is exclusive to the Nintendo DS and you begin by creating your own hero.
You are able to toggle the characteristics of your figure in almost any way you wish, altering its height, hair and face.
But that’s just largely frivolous stuff. The real meat is in the actual game and once you have your hero ready, it’s time to become a guardian in a detailed fantasy world based around the Observatory.
One thing you will soon discover is that the game has no random encounters.
All of the enemies can be seen on a map unless you are sailing.
Although it takes out some element of surprise, it nevertheless works well — and the game is difficult enough as it is. Battle is conducted from a combination of first and third-person perspectives.
It game is also designed to be played with others.
The emphasis in on multiplayer.
It helps you ease through the difficult sections although it does appear to make the story of the game a little more confused.
