Crackdown was a whole lot of fun.
Which is just as well because this sequel is effectively much more of the same.
It’s like a checklist based on the previous version with little attempt to really differentiate the action, although there is four-player co-op, some ace new gadgets and a few extra good pieces of killing equipment.
The game revolves around missions but it’s open-ended.
The makers say it’s the “ultimate open-ended world action experience” which is rather bold considering we've all played and loved GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption and yet there is strong element of truth in there.
Proceedings pick up from the events of the first game with mutants having ruined a vast bulk of Pacific City and it's up to you to make everything better.
Dispatching the beastly foes is ultimately satisfying and it’s a good job our man is such a mean dude. Things start off well but they get better as time goes on and eventually you’ll be blasting, gliding and leaping like an all-action hero.
This is a game high on adreneline and collecting orbs is an essential part of the game, if not the entire point.
Particular achievements earn you orbs that then translate into extra skills, weapons or vehicles.
