Five hours — that’s all it took us to finish The Last Airbender, the game based on a film.
But then again, this is a children’s game, and to that extent it’s good fun, taking the best scenes from the film and going on a journey to capture the Avatar.
Graphically, it’s poor.
The Wii can do much better.
The game doesn’t really utilise the Wii motion controls enough either expect in spots of combat and that is much less forgiving especially when fighting is quite simple.
That said, there are some cool control flourishes which will fill you with admiration.
But it doesn’t particularly become all that dull.
There are attempts at variation, for example when you take the exiled prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko, and switch from a third to first-person perspective shooter.
You can also solve puzzles and engage yourself in trying time jumps to perfection.
Sure the camera can be hit and miss from time to time, which makes life more difficult, but that only adds to the challenge in this case.
Gamers take on the part of three characters — Aang, Zuko and Blue Spirit — and the tutorials guide you through quite well.
It won’t be long before you’re producing some excellent destructive forces, be they Air Vortexes, Fire Balls or Fire Bombs.
Overall, though, we suspect you would have to be a fan of the film to really appreciate the game.
There are too many better games around for you to bother otherwise.
Overall rating 3/5
