Square Enix is the undisputed daddy of the role-playing-game title, so the prospect of another amazing adventure dropping on to the DS is enough to make any gamer’s stylus start to shake.
And DQIX doesn’t disappoint.
An enchanting story, littered with likeable non-playable characters, is bolstered by an extremely robust turn-based battle control system, which benefits from the huge levels of customisation permitted.
A host of character classes and evolutionary options within each make the possibilities practically endless, and it’s in this kind of RPG depth where DQIX stands out.
Local wireless multiplayer adds another interesting innovation to the DQ world and, provided you’re tethered to your friends, it works pretty well.
All in all, Sentinels Of The Starry Skies gives us the kind of engrossing adventure we’ve come to expect from the Square Enix crew, if not the groundbreaking innovation we’d hoped for.
