BUDDING police officers destined for a career in law enforcement will soon be able to take advantage of a new university course.
The University of Cumbria will offer a two-year full foundation degree in policing for those who aspire to join the police force by 2008.
The programme has been developed in collaboration with Cumbria Police which is committed to recruiting 25 per cent of its annual intake of new officers from the course by 2010 - provided students also meet the rigorous national selection criteria.
Deputy Chief Constable Christine Twigg said: "Our partnership with the University of Cumbria provides the constabulary with a number of advantages. During their two year course students will gain practical policing experience by working with us in the valuable role of Special Constable."
