Most mums spend so much time caring for their families that they can easily forget their own health and wellbeing. This Mother's Day think about how you can do something that fits in with a healthy lifestyle and show mum how much you care at the same time.

Here are some heart healthy ways to treat your mum on Mother's Day Start the day with breakfast in bed. Home made muesli with juicy berries, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on wholemeal toast and freshly squeezed fruit juice. Remember to brighten up the tray with a vase of flowers.

An active day out is a great way to spend Mother's day. This could be roller blading, ice-skating, a walk in the countryside or even just cycling in the park. Spending time together as a family is always a treat. Take a healthy picnic and make sure you do the washing up when you get home.

Treat mum to a massage and make the whole day relaxing. Do the cooking and the washing up and keep the kids occupied and the house nice and quiet, so mum can have a well earned and stress free rest.

Women often think of heart disease as being a man's problem, in fact they are usually surprised to learn that heart disease kills more women every year than breast cancer. It's not just a man's disease, so women of all ages need to remember to take care of their own health and wellbeing as well as that of their families and keep everyone's heart healthy.
