ALREADY almost 800 women from the South Lakes and Furness have signed up for Race for Life 2008, but with less than three months until the big day, now is the time to get fit and get involved.

Organised by Cancer Research UK, a charity that funds life saving research into the treatment and cure of cancer, Race for Life is shaping up to become the sporting event of the summer.

The event takes place on Sunday June 1 at the Westmorland County Showground in Crooklands, near Kendal, where it is hoped that thousands of women will take part and raise £78,000 for Cancer Research.

advertisementOne woman who will definitly be taking part is Sheila Bell from Crook who is running the race on behalf of her mother and uncle who were both affected by cancer.

Mrs Bell said: "I have always said I wanted to do the Race for Life and last year was my fiftieth birthday and I said to my friend let's do it next year. My uncle died of bowel cancer and my mum had breast cancer, but luckily she survived. She truly was an inspiration to us all because she coped so well."

If you would like to join Mrs Bell and take part in Race for Life visit www.raceforlife.org/northwest or call the hotline on 0871-641-2276.
