The snow has caused me to rearrange my day and given me space to attend to the Beacon Blog once again. A fresh fall of snow makes such a difference to the way the world looks and in this country at
least it slows us all down. I always have a wry smile on my face when you hear it given out over the radio that you should only take to the road if your journey is absolutely necessary, as if work
isn’t entirely necessary!!

In the churches of the Beacon Team we have just completed the Season of Remembrance, which characterises the month of November. There is All Saints’ Day, then All Souls’ Day and finally Remembrance
Sunday itself. Each gives an opportunity to think about the human condition. On All Saints’ Day the many exemplary Christians are commemorated, and their example reflected upon. On All Souls’ Day
‘ordinary folk’ are commemorated, and many people like to think of loved ones who have died and who are still missed. On Remembrance Sunday special attention is given to those men and women of our
Armed Forces who have given their lives for Queen and Country, willingly, sacrificially, just doing their duty.

What should I write? What will people expect after the build up I got in the Gazette the week before last? For me this is the first time I have dipped my toe into the water that is 'Blogging', so I
may be a little inept. Context, that's perhaps what readers need, before substance (or lack of it) so here goes. The Beacon Team is a group of Parishes comprising the Anglican Churches in
Burneside, Grayrigg, Kendal (St. George), Longsleddale, Selside and Skelsmergh. Two full time clergy along with other Assistant Clergy and Lay Readers serve these churches and their parishes. The
views expressed in the Blog will be my own ruminations on life, from my perspective as Team Rector of these six Parishes and a person who is called Nigel. Perhaps they will reflect something of my
on going journey of faith. May be they will be of interest to some folk, amusing to others and offensive to none.
