A SOUTH Lakeland moggy has proved she’s the cat’s whiskers after winning a prestigious title at the feline equivalent to Crufts.
Supatoft Pumpkins Pie, one of nine pampered pussies owned by Brenda Horsley of Sedbergh, strutted her stuff at the Supreme Show in Birmingham to take home top prize in the UK Grand class – an honour only attainable by felines who have qualified at a series of other hotly-contested stages.
The three-year-old Somali won the UK Grand title in 2007 too – making her the UK’s Imperial Grand Champion.
“It’s as high as you can get so we’re very proud,” smiled Mrs Horsley, who has been breeding Somalis for more than 25 years.
“She’s very gentle and loving and very relaxed – a show cat has to be to succeed, if they didn’t want to do it they wouldn’t and the judges always say she presents herself so well."
To prepare Pumpkins for last Thursday’s contest Mrs Horsley and her husband Adrian bathed their purring pet for two days then used a selection of special powders to get her coat in tip-top condition. She also enjoys fresh fish twice a week.
