ANTI-windfarm campaigners in Eden believe the historical significance of a proposed site could scupper plans for nine, 300 feet turbines in the countryside near Penrith.

West Coast Energy has lodged a planning application with Eden District Council for a windfarm at Berrier Hill, near Greystoke.

However, Cumbria County Council's archaeologist department has written to EDC's planning department to request a detailed archaeological survey is carried out on the proposed site.

According to Cumbria County Council assistant archaeologist Jeremy Parsons, the Berrier Hill site contains ancient earthworks and the remains of Bronze Age cremation burials, which need to be explored before a decision is made by the EDC planning committee.
