Dental nurses meet to talk about new regulations

Dental nurses in South Cumbria will be meeting next Tuesday (6th May) to discuss ways they can meet new training demands from the General Dental Council.

The GDC has ruled that all dental nurses and technicians must be officially registered with them by this summer, and in the future complete 30 hours of formal training every year.

It means that dental nurses will be joining dentists and other medical professionals in having to undergo "continual professional development" in order to remain registered with the GDC.

Next Tuesday's meeting in Ambleside has been arranged by Grange Dental Practice, and director Chloe Booth anticipates a massive turn-out by nursing staff from the region's dental practices.

Heading the agenda will be a discussion on ways dental nurses can meet their new training targets.

Subjects which need to covered by nurses range from dealing with medical emergencies to the safe use of radiography and other techniques and treatments.

The meeting takes place at 6.30pm next Tuesday, 6th May, at Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside. More information is available from Grange Dental on 0845 241 5425.

I don't know what all the fuss is about.

I joined 4everlearning.com and for a fixed annual fee you can do all your verifiable cpd online without having to travel to courses or take days off work and interupt patient care.

just 1 hour a week online easily exceeds what the GDC says nurses and technicians have to do CPD and it stores all your records online too so you don't lose them. My friend recommended 4everlearning.com and she's a Hygienist who uses it too. Look on GDC website, it gives this as an example along with others too.

Sam.
