Ms Feeney-Johnson, a Liberal Democrat, took over the post from Coun Gwen Murfin yesterday (Thursday) at a traditional Mayor Making Ceremony, where she said she looking forward to picking up where her predecessor left off.

"I want to follow her example and continue all the hard work she has done in her year to celebrate the achievements of the young people of the town," she added.

During her time as mayor, Ms Feeney Johnson also aims to encourage local residents to get involved in shaping the future of the town and in a bid to become more accessible and promote communication, Ms Feeney Johnson will be regularly blogging on The Westmorland Gazette's website.
