A PARACHUTIST who landed in a tree 50 ft above ground, had to be rescued by firefighters.

The woman, who was taking part in her first solo jump at Cark Airfield at Flookburgh, got tangled up in the branches of a tree after going off course.

Fire crews from Kendal, Grange and Barrow went to her aid, along with police and paramedics, at noon today (Sunday).

She was helped to the ground using an aerial ladder and was unhurt.

A spokesman for the fire service said it was the second time a parachutist from the airfield had landed in a tree - the other incident involved a woman who blew several miles off course and landed at Kents Bank last year.
