Trains delayed following death near Oxenholme

A PERSON has died after being hit by a train on the West Coast Mainline near Oxenholme.

There is still disruption to First Transpennine Express, Virgin and Scotrail services on the line this morning (Tuesday), with delays of up to an hour and replacement buses in operation.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Shortly after 9.45pm on Monday, we were called following reports of a person having been struck by a train near to Oxenholme rail station.

“Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from Cumbria Police and North West Regional Ambulance Service and discovered a man had been struck and killed by a train.

“Officers are currently working to determine the identity of the man, though the incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.

“Once the identity of the deceased is confirmed, officers will assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.”

Kendal's pavements are looking good! Probably cost an arm and a leg but an improvement for pedestrians and of course the large numbers of cyclists who use them too!!!
