South Lakeland Land Allocations Development Plan to be examined today

A HEARING will start today to determine whether South Lakeland District Council’s Land Allocations document is sound.

Independent Planning Inspector Simon Berkeley has been appointed to examine the documents from 10am in the District Council Chamber at Kendal Town Hall.

The plans include the development of 6,000 homes across the district, with 1,961 of these proposed for Kendal.

The hearings will initially run for four days before reconvening on Tuesday, November 6 for a further two days.

Only members of the public who have made representations are entitled to participate in the hearing sessions of the examination.

However, the public gallery will be open for people who wish to go and listen to the hearing taking place.

The Planning Inspector has read all the council’s documents and representations and has advised participants in writing of the draft timetable for the proposed hearings.

The draft timetable first considers the overall approach and secondly the issues on a settlement by settlement basis.

Once the examinations hearings are complete, the planning inspector will publish the result of his findings.

This normally takes around six weeks.
