A NEW fingerpost will be unveiled in Kendal on Friday as part a day of celebrations marking 20 years of the town’s twinning with Rinteln.
Dignitaries from the mint cake town’s German counterpart will attend the Market Place ceremony at 11am along with Mayor of Kendal, Coun John Willshaw, and MP Tim Farron.
Between 2.30pm and 4pm, Rinteln Folkdance group will perform at the Birdcage ahead of a civic reception and a free concert, open to the public, at Kendal Town Hall from 8pm.
Rinteln Fire Brigade Orchestra will entertain guests along with Queen Katherine School’s Big Band.
Coun Willshaw said: “I hope that the people of Kendal will gather in the Market Place at 11am on Friday to witness the unveiling of the fingerpost commemorating 20 years of our twinning with Rinteln. In the evening come and enjoy the free concert at the town hall. All are welcome.”
Both towns have enjoyed strong links since they were twinned in an arrangement which was spearheaded by Kendal Rinteln Association.

I for one would like to see and hear the bands play, but will be working elsewhere - the timetable seems to exclude a number of people from taking part, and Saturday would have been a better choice!

I doubt I shall be able to sleep tonight.
How appropriate Kendal is twinned with Ritalin, a stupor inducing drug designed to calm people down.
I shall have to take an extra one tonight to ensure I don't hyperventilate with the excitement.
