A YOUNG Ulverston swimmer met her heroines when she was honoured for her wonderful dedication to the sport and for generous spirit.
Eden-Joy Light won silver in the Young Swimmer of the Year category, at the 2012 Kellog’s ASA Swimtastic Awards, in Sheffield.
She got to meet Team GB’s long-distance swimming star Keri-Anne Payne, and Paralympic gold medallist and world record holder Ellie Simmonds at a glittering ceremony, as well as receiving the award from Team GB’s Hannah Miley.
Despite only being 12, the Ulverston Victoria High School pupil is already making great waves in the sporting world in Cumbria.
Mum Michelle said: “Eden got to swim with some fantastic swimmers in the afternoon, including Ellie Simmonds, Hannah Miley, Keri-Anne Payne and many more. All the swimmers were fantastic with the children. They are an absolute credit to our country.
“The awards ceremony in the evening was phenomenal, and the excitement unbelievable. “Eden was seated next to Keri-Anne at the dinner table, and she was absolutely lovely and gave Eden some valuable advice.”
Eden, who earlier this year raised hundreds of pounds completing a sponsored swim for local charity Alice’s Escapes, is a Cumbria County Champion in the 50, 100 and 200m distances.
