A FUND-RAISING ball is to be held in memory of a mother and former RAF pilot killed in a car crash on the A590.

The Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust, set up by Michelle’s husband Neil after her death in 2009, will host the event at the Netherwood Hotel in Grange-over-Sands.

A piper from the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, in which Mrs Jurd served, will greet guests.

After drinks, a singer will entertain ahead of dinner and an auction of prizes, including a ‘flight’ in an RAF Tornado simulator; a portrait by artist Marianne Gibson, a signed limited edition print from Mandy Shepherd and a weekend at a marina village.

Billy Mott, the Garrison Sgt Major for London, responsible for all ceremonial parades in the capital, is to attend the black tie event.

Mr Jurd’s charity has raised around £40,000 for good causes and to promote adventure training in local schools.

It also donates to service charities and this year will support the Gurkha Welfare Trust, Not Forgotten Association and RAF Benevolent Fund.

Tickets for the event on November 24 cost £65 from Mr Jurd on 015395-32345.
