A WALKER was airlifted to hospital seriously hurt after being blown over in gale-force winds on Coniston Old Man.
The woman, thought to be in her 40s and from Warrington, Cheshire, had been part of a group walking on the track between Goats Water and Walna Scar on Sunday lunchtime.
She suffered serious chest injuries and, according to Coniston Mountain Rescue Team, was ‘in a lot of pain’.
Rescuers were helped by the Great North Air Ambulance, whose aircrew paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was flown to Furness General Hospital in Barrow by the Pride of Cumbria helicopter.
