THE 26-year-old man who died after his car was in a collision on the A595 last night has been named as Peter Benson, of Ulpha, near Broughton-in-Furness.

Mr Benson was driving his red 3 series BMW when it left the A595 near to the Low Lickle Bridge, between the High Cross Inn at Broughton and Duddon Bridge.

The BMW ended up submerged in the river.

Two fire crews from Barrow and Broughton were called to help in the recovery.
A fire and rescue service search and rescue team helped remove Mr Benson from the car and he was taken to hospital, but medics were unable to save him.

The area was then searched using a thermal imaging camera for any further casualties and all persons were accounted for.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Mr Benson between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm to contact them.

They are also interested in speaking to anyone who was travelling on that road and may have witnessed anything to contact PC 1574 Clark from the Roads Policing Unit at Ulverston or any police officer on 101.

Police would also like to thank members of the public for their help and assistance.
