Volunteers give more than 1,000 days to repair and maintain Lake District paths

FIX the Fells volunteers have gifted more than 1,000 days in 2012 helping to repair and maintain Lake District mountain paths.

It is the highest number of hours reported since the volunteer programme began five years ago.

Volunteers have been out in all weathers clearing path drains, sweeping stones from stone pitching, undertaking repair work and generally helping prevent erosion.

Tanya Oliver, programme manager for Fix the Fells, said: “The Lake District fells are spectacular and the work our volunteers do to help repair and maintain paths helps to keep them that way. We could not do it without them and their enthusiasm and support make Fix the Fells what it is.

“They are highly skilled and a great group of people to work with. Our sincere thanks goes to all of them for what they do.”
