Voting opens in contest which could win new pre-school building for Hawkshead school

VOTING opens today (Thursday) in a competition which could see Hawkshead Esthwaite Primary School win a new £80,000 pre-school building.

The current structure is in urgent need of repair with the side of the unit rotting away and there are fears it close if its condition is not improved.

Between now and January 31, the public can vote for six school projects nationwide with the winner getting cash for a 30-pupil learning space.

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron urged people to back Hawkshead.

"They are the only school in the north in the running for this and it would be a massive deal for them and would make a huge difference," said Mr Farron.

"Having a good-standard pre-school protects your general school intake when it comes to year one and helps it stay open."
