KENDAL'S TA centre is to lose its Army careers information desk as recruitment moves more online.
It will shut for good on Thursday (January 10), though the centre on Queen Katherine Street will remain open as a training base for reservists.
A spokesman said the Army is receiving an increasing number of enquiries via computers and mobile phones, so is refocusing its recruitment efforts online.
Commander Regional Recruiting Lieutenant Colonel Leanda Pitt said: “Army recruiting teams have been examining the way recruiting is done to make sure it is more efficient and effective.
“Although some offices are closing, we are stepping up our online presence to meet the demands of young recruits who are increasingly likely to use their smart phone or tablet device to contact us.
"The Army is still recruiting in Kendal and there are jobs available now. I’d encourage anyone interested in knowing more to visit our website www.army.mod.uk or our careers office in Carlisle which will remain open.”
