KESWICK Information Centre is to close from next week for a £40,000 'make-over.'

The Lake District National Park Authority Moot Hall centre will close its doors to the public on Tuesday (January 15) before re-opening on February 4.

LDNPA information services project manager Olivia Clarke said it was unfortunate that the popular and busy centre could not have remained open during the works and apologised for any inconvenience.

But she said that incorporating the current two-floors of trading into just a single ground floor operation was quite a substantial project.

“We are doing the work at one of our quietest times of the year, but I appreciate there will be some disruption,” she said.

“However by improving our retail and bookings offerings, we hope to increase our annual income to help offset the running costs of the centre and secure its long term future.

“We fully believe that information centres are an integral part of both the local and visitor communities.

“These changes will make better use of the retail space and improve the vital service we offer in Keswick.”

Adventure Capital and accommodation booking services acurrently carried out on the first floor at Moot Hall will be brought downstairs and incorporated into the retail service.

The LDNPA’s information centre at Bowness Bay on Windermere will also undergo a reorganisation before spring.
