A TRAINEE solicitor who grew up in Arnside has scooped one of the top law student awards in the country.
Matthew Brown, 24, won the DLA award, which is presentted by international law firm DLA Piper.
The prize is given to the student who obtains the highest combined mark in the corporate business and commercial law parts of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law in Guildford.
Students who wish to become solicitors must pass the LPC before they can proceed to the next stage of practice.
Mr Brown, who completed the course last summer, scored 92 and 93 per cent in the two different sections.
Since graduating, he has started a contract to train as a solicitor with national law company Shoosmiths.
Mr Brown, a former student of Lancaster Royal Grammar School, said: “I am really pleased to have been presented with this award. It rounds off two very enjoyable years spent at the college.”
The College of Law is Britain's largest legal training organisation for both student solicitors and barristers and attracts some of the country's most able students.
It has centres in London, Guildford, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Chester and York.
