Goodbye to Alice Pyne: Brave 'Bucket List' teen passes away surrounded by family. 'She gained her angel wings today,' says Mum.

ALICE Pyne was the terminally-ill teenager whose name became synonomous with a determination to enjoy life despite a rare form of cancer.

The 17-year-old, from Ulverston, died yesterday (Saturday) surrounded by her family. In a post on her famous blog, mum Vicky said 'Alice had gained her angels wings.'

Alice and her family used social media like blogging, Facebook and Twitter to great effect to spread news of her campaign worldwide.

She is reported to have raised over £100,000 and won celebrity supporters whilst also inspiring ordinary people with her "One life, Live it" motto.

Her last tweet was on January 9 when she tweeted: "On my way to London :)." She also posted on January 8 that she had been brought a cake. "Hello, it's me I'm awake and actually feel quite good," she tweeted.

The inspirational teenager rose to global recognition after devising a famous 'Bucket List blog' outlining all the things she wanted to do before she died.

On January 1, she wrote: "Can't believe that I'm really saying 'Happy New Year' to you all.  I don't think that there is a single doctor that would have expected me to be here when they sent me home over two years ago (although i have had a fair bit of help in keeping going LOL).

"Anyway, I did promise that I'd do an update. I've only really managed one really good day in the last month and that was Christmas Day, so I don't know if that says it's in my head or if it was just luck, but it was the right day to have a good day LOL."

The teenager also helped establish the Alice's Escapes idea; which raises money to provide holidays for those with seriously and terminally ill children.

Alice was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 12. It is a cancer of the lymphatic system and fewer than 60 children in the UK develop it each year.

It can affect children at any age, but it’s more common in teenagers and young adults.

One of Alice's last high profile appearances involved collecting her Teenager of Courage Award from Robbie Williams last October before national television cameras, which was shown on ITV1.

Her appeareance resulted in a massive influx of enquiries about bone marrow donation online.

As well as fulfilling personal dreams, one of the goals of her Bucket List was to get: "Everyone eligible to join a bone marrow register."

More than 40,000 donors joined up as a result of her campaign.

She began the Bucket List blog saying: "Hi, I'm 17 years old and live with my parents and sister in Ulverston. I've been fighting cancer for over 5 years and now I know that the cancer is gaining on me and it doesn't look like I'm going to win this one :("

After her tv appearance in October, six times more people visited the Anthony Nolan website.
