Traffic stopped for three hours as HGV carrying digger ends up in ditch at Kirkby Lonsdale

TRAFFIC was stopped in both directions of the A65, after an HGV carrying a digger ended up in a ditch at the side of the road.

The incident, at around 8.37am this morning, happened between the Crooklands roundabout and Kirkby Lonsdale.

The Volvo HGV is thought to have got into an accident, before veering into the ditch. It is not yet clear whether any other vehicles were involved.

The 55-year-old lorry driver escaped injury, but traffic was stopped in both directions for more than three hours, as highways officers and police worked to clear the scene.

The road was re-opened at 12pm.
