Agricultural accolade for Tebay M6 services firm Westmorland Ltd

AN Eden farming family behind one of Britain’s most innovative motorway service stations is celebrating after winning a top agricultural accolade.

The Dunning family were named winners of the Excellence in Practical Farming and Business Award 2012 by the Royal Agricultural Society of England.

Their company, Westmorland Ltd, grew out of the family farm 40 years ago when the M6 was built through their farmland at Tebay.

They formed Tebay services, which is still the only family-owned and run service station in the country John Dunning, founding director of Westmorland, said: “When the M6 was built through the edge of our farm, it provided us with a great opportunity to diversify.

“We are delighted to have been recognised for this work with this highly respected and hotly contested award.

“I am particularly indebted to our farm manager Bob Day for the superb job he has done in running the farm over the last 28 years.

“I am also proud of the excellent partnership which has been developed between our head butcher Dave Morland and our farm manager Bob to ensure high quality beef and lamb, with maximum traceability and minimum food miles, is supplied each week to fulfill most of the meat requirements of our business.”
