THE family of a retired fell pony breeder who died following a collision in Penrith have paid tribute to him.
Thomas Christopher Thompson, 77, of Lazonby, was walking in the car park at Penrith Hospital when he was in a collision with a car.
A police spokesman said: "At 11.24 am on January 16 a collision occurred in the car park at Penrith Hospital.
"Mr Thompson was a pedestrian who was on a routine errand at the medical practice and was involved in a collision with a Suzuki Swift, which was being driven by a 74-year-old woman from the Penrith area.
" Mr Thompson sadly died at the scene."
A statement from Mr Thompson's family said: “He was a well-known and respected fell pony breeder and retired local farmer.
“We are devastated by our loss. Chris Thompson farmed at High Drybarrows, Bampton, prior to retiring with his wife to Lazonby.”
He leaves his wife Shirley, daughters Carolyn and Christine and son David, as well as sons-in-law Joe and Dennis, and daughter-in-law Gail.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Cumbria Constabulary’s road policing unit on 101.
