A KENDAL hairdresser is basking in fame this week after a star turn on Channel Four’s Come Dine With Me.

Julie Wall, 46, a freelance hairdresser at Ed’s hairdressers in Market Street, put in a livewire performance on Sunday night's episode.

The series involves four total strangers cooking and hosting a three-course meal at their homes and being scored on the results.

Livewire Julie, with her constant catchphrase 'OMG,' as in 'Oh my god,' and 'Total amazeballs,’ proved a big hit with her fellow guests.

She appeared alongside refined local headteacher, Michael Webster, of Wings School near Milnthorpe; a former Butler to the Queen.

When Mr Webster asked guests to attend his dinner party dressed as their favourite member of the Royal Family, music fan Julie dressed as Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury, complete with eyeliner moustache and fake chest hair.

The other two guests were Keswick-based hotel manager, Lindsey Berry, and salesman, Marc McAdam, who won the £1,000 prize with 23 points.

Julie, a married mum-of-one, told the Gazette: “It was really hard work because I was filming all night, working through the day and then going straight out to another party for four days in a row. I just wanted to sleep for days after it, but the experience was amazing.

“My plan was to get everyone so drunk they’d all just give me a 10 but it didn’t quite work out the way I hoped!”

She added: “The best part was meeting three new friends who I’m sure I will be having more dinner parties with.”

“My husband and daughter were really proud of me but it was torture not being able to talk about it incase I revealed the winner - I think everyone knew it wasn’t me though.”

Despite 26 series already, last week’s show was the first time it has been filmed in the Lake District.

Julie cooked up an unusual strawberry soup for starters, followed by a pickle and sausage casserole and a Kendal Mint Cake-inspired chocolate biscuit for dessert. She scored 19 points and finished joint-second with Lindsey and Mr Webster.

Mr Webster served his guests a salmon, trout and mackerel páté, chicken in mushroom sauce and finished up with a local classic, Sticky Toffee Pudding.

"with her constant catchphrase 'OMG,' as in 'Oh my god,' and 'Total amazeballs,’"

Well, that doesn't sound at all irritating! :D

My wife would love Julie's recipe for the sausage and pickle casserole, can't say I would.

The menu sounds positively vile. Although possibly better than her "catchphrases".
Come Dine With Me started off as a rather good show. Now it seems less about the actual cooking and more about who can be the most annoying.
