A MAN's body has been found in the Walney Channel in Barrow.

Cumbria Police said they received a call at 7.50am this morning reporting concern for the welfare of a Barrow man in his 60s.

Officers mounted a search along with the Coastguard, fire service and mountain rescue volunteers and an ambulance was also called.

The man's body was located in the channel at the back of the Kimberley Clarke factory.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and police said they were working to formally identify him and inform his family.

A Cumbria Police spokeswoman said: "A team of around 12 police officers attended and officers would like to thank the member of public who allowed them to use his own boat during the rescue.

"The body has not yet been formally identified, however the family who reported concerns for the missing man have been informed and are being supported at this difficult time."
