Body found in Fleetwood thought to be that of Barrow dad Paul Morris, 41, who was swept out to sea at Blackpool

A BODY found near a beach in Fleetwood today is believed to be that of a Cumbrian man who was swept out to sea on New Year’s Eve.

Barrow dad Paul Morris, 41, was swept from Blackpool’s South Pier while walking at around 12am on January 1.

Lancashire Police said the body was discovered at 8.40am this morning and, although formal identification was yet to take place, it was believed to be that of Mr Morris.

His family has been informed.

A large-scale search and rescue effort involving Liverpool Coastguard, two lifeboats and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley piloted by the Duke of Cambridge, failed to locate Mr Morris.

The father-of-two had moved from Rawlinson Street, Barrow, to Blackpool a month before his death.
