Tractor tyres scattered across M6 near Shap after lorry overturns

MOTORWAY drivers were held up this morning after a HGV overturned near Shap, scattering its load of tractor tyres across the carriageway.

Two other vehicles, a HGV and a van, were involved in the accident on the M6 northbound at 5.36am just before junction 39.

Police and highways officials attended and closed two lanes of the road for recovery work.

All traffic was stopped from 8.55am for half an hour.

The drivers of the vehicles were not seriously hurt but one was taken to hospital with possible chest injuries.

All lanes of the motorway were re-opened at around 11am after the tyres were cleared.

Apparently according to the illuminated signs along the M6, drivers should not drive while tyred!
