Kendal Town Council on truth mission over hospital understaffing allegations
Updated 9:59pm Monday 4th February 2013 in News
COUNCILLORS are on a mission to uncover the truth after a national newspaper allegedly printed false data about Westmorland General Hospital.
Members of Kendal Town Council say they were left concerned by a report in the Telegraph which stated the Kendal hospital was understaffed.
The figures allegedly came from watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
But councillors said the hospital claimed its figures were from an outdated report and had since rectified its staffing levels.
Councillor Geoffrey Cook told the council chamber that the CQC was "surprised" by the report.
But Councillor John Veevers said: "I was told categorically by senior staff that they were cutting budgets and weren't having staff replaced."
The council will now write to the hospital, its scrutiny board and the CQC in a bid to find out the truth.
