Bowness tourist attraction to re-open after £200,000 virtual makeover
2:17pm Friday 8th February 2013 in News
ONE of the Lake District’s most popular tourist attractions will re-open to the public tomorrow (Saturday) after a £200,000 development.
The award-winning ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ has installed a new foyer, gift shop and a ‘Virtual World of Beatrix Potter’ - featuring a 55” multi touch table telling the history of one of the Lake District’s most-loved woman.
The table offers panoramic views of the Lakes and the part they played in the life of the author, illustrator and conservationist.
The established ‘Virtual Walks’ has been updated with more images allowing visitors to walk through Sawrey, Keswick and Ennerdale.
A wealth of historical material, presented on six HD screens showing a timeline of Beatrix Potter’s life and works, is also being made available to visitors for the first time since opening 21 years ago.
Andy Poole, Chief Executive at World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, said: “2012 was a challenging year for Lakeland tourism and we want to rise to that challenge by offering even better value for money and a fantastic experience for all the family.
“We hope to continue to attract both UK and overseas visitors not only to ourselves but to the area as a whole, with a unique fusion of the classic Beatrix Potter legacy, the magnificent landscape, and 21st century technology.”
On Friday 15, there will be a tea party where children will have the chance to meet with characters, have a party lunch and take a tour of the Bowness attraction.
