A LOCAL MP has issued a plea to Cumbria County Council to reveal which communities will receive superfast broadband.

South Lakes MP, Tim Farron, has reacted to an announcement made by the council, yesterday, that work will begin on the project in spring.

Now he is urging them to reveal which communities will be connected and when.

He said: "Yesterday’s announcement is welcome news but we need to know details now.

“They plan to start work in a couple of months but we have still not been told which communities will be covered and which won’t be.

“It is vital that the county council ensures that broadband is rolled out across the county and that there is a fair and equal geographical spread.”

The council has revealed that it is aiming to provide the superfast connections to 93 per cent of homes by 2015.

Councillors signed the contract to deliver the service in November 2012, after receiving £40million of government funding and £30million of investment from BT.

The council’s cabinet has now agreed on an implementation plan and aim to use the money to ensure most homes and businesses across Cumbria benefit from the funding.

They have also received State Aid approval.
