SOUTH Lakeland District Council is proposing a freeze on Council Tax for 2013/14.

The proposal was made to a meeting of the council’s Cabinet yesterday (Wednesday) and will be voted on at full council on Thursday, February 28.

Coun leader Peter Thornton, said: “We believe this is the right thing to do. Every pound we save our residents in council tax is a pound they can spend in the local economy.

"As a council with a long history of prudent financial management we can afford to make this proposal. I hope it is passed unanimously when it is voted on at full council.”

This will be the third year running that SLDC has frozen its share of the local tax.

Meanwhile, Cumbria County Council is due to set its Council Tax rate at a full authority meeting this morning.
