New albums by Foals, Doldrums & Trichotomy reviewed

FOALS - Holy Fire

I WAS pleasantly surprised by what I found upon listening to Foals latest offering, Holy Fire.

The Oxford indie five-piece deliver on their early promise on this their third album, which shakes and grooves in all the right places.

Standout track is Bad Habit, which bears more than a passing resemblence to Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition, and is all the better for it. This is an early contender for album of the year.

DOLDRUMS - Lesser Evil

BEST mates with breakthrough Canadian teenager Grimes, Doldrums mixes indie melodies with dance beats to great effect.

This haunting and hypnotic debut album will appeal to fans of his aforementioned friend as well as Aphex Twin and Orbital enthusiasts.

Packed with melancholic vocals and sounds which resemble transmissions from outer space, this CD makes Doldrums stand out as an inventive and thoughtful artist.

TRICHOTOMY - Fact Finding Missions

IT IS fair to say that piano trios are few and far between, but this popular Australian act prove that there is a market for them.

Trichotomy have carved out a reputation as one of the most exciting modern jazz bands in the world right now.

And this vibrant album, which shifts between instrumental and lyrical pieces, showcases why.
