Police hail 'hero' driver who pulled man from burning car after A591 crash near Kendal

A DRIVER was pulled from a burning car by a motorist who saw it leave the A591 and burst into flames near Kendal.

The incident happened near Low Sizergh Barn at around 6.30am this morning.

Police later confirmed the driver was taken to hospital in Preston with burns and suspected fractures. His passenger, who helped the passing motorist pull him clear, was uninjured.

Cumbria Police revealed details of the accident on Twitter and hailed the Good Samaritan who stopped to help a 'hero'.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service sent two Kendal crews to the crash.

A spokesman for the service confirmed that nobody was trapped inside the vehicle by the time its appliances arrived, but said the car was 'well alight.'

Two firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

Good to see there are still people prepared to help others in this selfish age well done ,what about a reward for him?

Surely knowing that you've saved the lives of two men is greater than any financial reward. Well done to the hero driver.

Totally agree with you Lakesgirl.
Well done that driver.

It does not have to be a financial reward, there are awards given to people who have selflessly stepped in to help others - and the recipients rarely seek this themselves, and have to be nominated by others.

So far, I don't know who it was, but I hope it inspires others to give help when required.

I have to agree with you, Life cycle.
As someone who helped a man who'd been knocked off his bike by a large scaffolding wagon nearly two years ago.
Some recognition of this persons selfless
bravery would be good idea as we all know if it wasn't for his actions and what he did that morning the outcome would of been very different.

Well done to that man! I agree with lakesgirl81 and don't think people who save other people's lives automatically need a reward or acclaim. I anonymously saved someone's life in a road accident once, and just knowing that you did the right thing in the circumstances is reward enough - any decent person would do the same.
