Eden mountain rescuers assist injured walkers in three call outs

FOUR injured walkers were rescued by Patterdale Mountain Rescue team in three seperate incidents caused by treacherous conditions yesterday (Saturday).

Rescuers were called first to assist a father and son who had slipped down an icy path on Helvellyn.

The team was then called to help a 27-year-old man who had broken his ankle and dislocated his shoulder on another part of Helvellyn.

While this was proceeding, the rescuers were alerted to a 47-year-old, from Oxfordshire, who fell on St Sunday Crag, fracturing his ankle. Penrith MRT was called in to assist due to the number of incidents.

All four, who were said by rescuers to be well equipped, flown to hospital by Royal Navy Sea King helicopter.
