Teen mum and baby missing from Cumbria found safe and well in France

A MISSING teenage mum and her baby son have been found safe and well in France, Cumbria police have confirmed.

Catalina Covaci, 15, and her seven-month-old son, Ricardo, went missing from their home in Penrith after Catalina boarded a train in Penrith bound for Manchester Piccadilly on Wednesday, December 19, of last year.

Following two months of public appeals and national and international inquiries, Catalina made contact with officers this week to confirm she and Ricardo are safe and well with family members in France.

Detective Chief Inspector Lesley Hanson said: "I am delighted to say that Catalina has made contact with us and, after our police colleagues in France visited her and Ricardo on our behalf, we are now able to close our missing person enquiry.

"Catalina and Ricardo are safe and well which is the best outcome we could have hoped for.

"I'd like to thank every single person on the police enquiry team who have spent every day for the last two months scouring streets across the country, looking at CCTV and visiting different homes and businesses to try and locate these children safe and well which has been our top priority.

"I'd also like to thank the media for their support and each member of the public who has taken the time to call in and offer us information about their whereabouts."
