REVIEW: Dozens were 'Dancing in the Moonlight' at Kendal Toploader gig last night

OLD rockers and teeny bobbers alike packed the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal last night to watch English band Toploader.

More than 150 people – whose ages must have ranged from less than 16 to 60 – danced the night away at the Malt Room to songs old and new from the Eastbourne four-piece.

I must admit I did not know any of the tunes bar the 90s hit ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’, but there were plenty of fans singing all the way through and it was a great atmosphere.

Frontman Joseph Washbourn was full of energy with a sense of humour, keeping the crowds laughing in between songs.

Right from the start people could not help but at least tap their feet, but it was after about half an hour when the well-known ‘moonlight’ tune belted out that the party really started.

After that, I do not think I spotted one person in the room who was not doing a boogie of some kind.

The only disappointment of the night was the encore, or lack of it. With a room full of people chanting ‘more, more’, I expected a repeat of the classic hit that had sent everyone crazy earlier in the night.

But we stood, we waited, and then the lights came on.

Despite this, it seemed like everyone there had a superb night and Toploader are definitely a band I would go and see again.
