A man who collapsed and died on a path between Elterwater and Grasmere on Saturday has been named as Peter Starkie.
Mr Starkie, 54, was from Makerfield, Wigan.
Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) were called to the scene at around 1.30pm by walkers, who had found the man near Dow Bank, and who had attempted CPR.
An air ambulance joined the 13 LAMRT members, but a spokesman for the team said ‘nothing could be done for him’ and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
