TALENTED young musician Evie Plumb is making waves on the live circuit with her pretty piano playing and soulful singing.

Evie Plumb, of Endmoor, was just six-years-old when she started playing the piano, and began singing a year later.

Now 18, she has grown into a skillful singer-songwriter and confident live performer.

Influenced by the likes of Katie Melua, Jamie Cullum and Birdy, Evie recently released her debut album, Purple Lake, and is gaining many admirers for its laidback piano-based pop sound.

The spiralling melody and surprisingly mature lyrics of the title track alone are sure to charm many a music fan.

Amazingly, she wrote it at the tender age of just 13 years old.

“That’s the one that everyone seems to be taken by,” she says humbly.

Evie’s jazz-inflected piano playing is a joy to behold, not least on Jigsaw, which bounces beautifully alongside her soulful voice.

The teenager was inspired to play music by her parents.

“They are quite musical and encouraged me to be musical,” she said.

And despite her age, she has already played at some of the region’s most popular music venues including Bootleggers, in Kendal, and also featured at Radio 1′s BIG Weekend in Carlisle in summer 2011.

Evie added: “Performing music live makes you play better because you know that people are judging you and so you want to do well.”

The Windermere St Anne’s School pupil’s gigs are taking a back seat at the moment while she studies hard for her International Baccalaureate.

But she will be performing at the Hydro Hotel, Bowness, on Friday, March 22, as part of the Bowness Bay Blues Festival.

Purple Lake, which features 12 of her own songs and was recorded at Shireshead Studio, in Forton, North Lancashire, is available via Evie’s website at http://evieplumb.wordpress.com
