Ambleside woman sets up shepherds' hut holiday business at Great Langdale
AN Ambleside woman is hoping to offer a get-away with a difference after setting up her own business.
Sarah Pike, 40, has bought and decked out three shepherd huts which can be hired as an alternative to camping, although still allowing the same benefits as a tent.
Situated at the Great Langdale National Trust campsite, Ms Pike said the huts brought a more traditional aspect to the ‘glamping’ market.
“We have yurts and tee-pees in Cumbria — things that originate from far, far away,” she said. “Shepherd huts have a history in the county so I wanted to explore the idea of bringing them back.”
Previously owning a yurt company, Ms Pike has a history in business, and has always enjoyed ‘creating spaces’.
With a degree in Fine Art the mother-of-two was more than equipped to turn the huts into the perfect spot for a cosy get-away.
The huts come fully equipped with a double bed, single bunk bed, a wood -burning stove and oven and a table and chairs. And Ms Pike believes the views of the Lakeland fells from both the stable doors and the windows, are some of the best in the Lake District.
But despite wanting the business to be a success, Ms Pike does not wish to expand the number of huts.
“This way I can manage them — it’s a lifestyle choice. I am also a yoga instructor and along with being a mum it’s busy, but I do love being self -employed.”
