Families "have taken legal action" against Furness General Hospital

More than 30 families have taken legal action against Furness General Hospital, according to the BBC.
They say baby and maternal deaths and injuries came about because of “poor care and medical negligence” at the site.
Parents have also alleged that important reports were suppressed in the run-up to the trust achieving foundation status in March 2010.
Since June 2011, a team of 15 detectives have been investigating several deaths at the hospital.
Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, told the Gazette earlier today: “It looks as though the previous trust management did do what we said they did, which is take massive risks with patient safety in order to get foundation trust status.”
However, he also said that the current management team were not responsible and should not be punished for the earlier failings.
John Cowdall, trust chairman, said: "There is no denying that the trust has let women and their families down in the past and there are things that should have been done differently.”
