Crews from Shap and Appleby called out to deal with blaze in house and oil tank close to Whinfell Forest

FIREFIGHTERS from Shap and Appleby have been called out to a fire at a detached house and oil tank close to Whinfell.

They joined crews from Carlisle East and Penrith to tackle the blaze, which broke out at a domestic property on the access road to Whinfell Forest this morning.

The officers were called out at around 7.45am.

On arrival at the incident, they found a two-storey detatched property, approximately 30 metres by 30 metres, well alight.

An oil tank, holding around 200 litres of heating oil, was also on fire.

Four hose reel jets and two main jets were used to tackle the fire.

A water carrier was also used, pumping water from a nearby dam onto the flames.

It is thought one person was in the house, but got out before fire crews arrived.

Police also attended the incident.

It is thought crews were still at the incident at around 1pm, although the fire was thought to be out by then.
